Beyond the Basics:  Pop, Rock, and Latin Line Dancing

This is the second level in the Pop, Rock, and Latin Line Dance series, designed for students with line dance experience including salsa rhythm, pivots, and syncopated elements such as locks.  At this level, less time is dedicated to breaking down the dances and more time is dedicated to dancing.  New students should have the ability to acclimate quickly to new material.

Friday mornings,   9:15 – 10:00 am

Ballroom, Latin, and Swing Line Dancing

Whether you like the smooth waltz, the energetic salsa, or the upbeat swing you’ll find just what you’re looking for and more in this fun weekly line dance class.  Learn and dance all the moves to classic and contemporary tunes.  No partner needed.  This is a solo dance class! This course has frequent "join dates", but because the line dances change each semester, dancers can continuously reenroll and always find fun, new material.  For more information on Cape Sands Ballroom's Ballroom Line Dancing, click here.  If you'd like additional focus on technique as part of your dance experience please check out "Fourth Wall Line Dancing".

Prerequisite:  Please click here to see a list of dance skills broken down by class level.

Friday mornings,   10:00 – 10:45 am

Level 1 Pop, Rock, and Latin Line Dancing - starting March 6

If you love pop, rock, and Latin music and if you love to dance, this is the line dance program for you!  Karen Shackleford’s signature Pop, Rock, and Latin Line Dance classes are a great way to meet new friends and get a little light exercise.  During a typical 45-minute class you’ll dance a half dozen or more dances.  Each dance is taught or reviewed, and voice and visual cues are used to assist with memorization.  The students are friendly and welcoming and the class is upbeat and fun.

Prerequisite:  Please click here to see a list of dance skills broken down by class level.

Friday mornings,   11:00 – 11:45 am

Information For all Courses

  • No partner required

  • Wear casual layered clothing

  • Bring a water bottle and small towel

  • Shoe Policy: Carry with you some non-marking, flat, flexible, closed-toe/heel/instep shoes that slide easily on the floor but provide sufficient traction to be safe when turning.  Please plan to change into your dance shoes upon arrival. This helps Dennis Council on Aging and Senior Center keep their flooring clean and in great shape for everyone to enjoy.  Not permitted in class:  sandals, mules/slides/clogs, platforms, slingbacks, heels.  Please make sure your shoes have some means of staying on your foot (tie or strap). Floor conditions vary from classroom to classroom and can be affected by humidity and other factors.  Some students carry a dance bag with more than one type of shoe so they can match their choice of shoes to the current floor conditions.

  • How to join?  Come to class a few minutes early with water bottle and shoes in hand.  Swipe your card in the lobby, change into your shoes, sign in, make payment, and you’re ready to dance!

  • For your safety and the safety of your classmates, please check with Karen before joining if unsure of your dance level.

$4.00 per class, when paid by the calendar month (a semester)

$3.50 per class, when paid by the calendar month and taking more than one class

Drop-ins (anyone attending less than a full month of classes) are $5.00 per class.

Checks and cash only.  Please make checks payable to "Cape Sands Ballroom".

11:00 Level 1 Pop, Rock and Latin Line Dancing ($5 drop-in or $4 per class when paid by the calendar month) is a new level starting March 6th and is designed for dancers with a little bit of line dance experience. Knowledge of jazz squares, grapevines, v-steps, etc. is required.

For students of all Friday Line Dance programs who have limited line dance experience we suggest joining on a “restart date” when new routines will be taught.  Next restart date TBA.
